Testimonial from mother of James, P5 ACS

Testimonial for Vincent Kok

My son had been with a tuition teacher for many years, but due to health reasons, she had to stop teaching him just before his P5 SA1 exams. I found Mr. Vincent’s contact through his website and asked him if he would be able to help James.

Although he had been doing reasonably well in the past – managing 70s – he really disliked the subject and getting him to revise was painful. The school’s standard also rose steeply in the second half of the P5 year, and he only managed 57% for his SA1. He continued to fail the next two tests and his morale was very low.

Mr. Vincent was very patient with James though, and engaged his interest through his use of iPads and laptop computers. He was also very encouraging, which helped him get past his failures. I am quite sure that recovering his morale from the SA1 and tests would have been a much harder task without Mr. Vincent’s constant support and encouragement. In the lead up to the exams, he was also very generous with his time and extended his teaching hours often to work through the different aspects of the paper with James. We were both very touched by his generosity and the obvious care he had.

He provided many useful tips and strategies for tackling James’ weakest areas - oral, composition and comprehension. Previously, we had to rely on just the old school style of drilling and memorization, which made the subject very unpalatable to him, but Mr. Vincent’s incorporation of new technology and his personal engagement with James caused his interest and acceptance of the subject grow, and made the drilling and memorization parts less of a chore. James was able to pass the last test before the SA2, and managed a 68% for the final exam, with a significant improvement in his oral grade. We are confident that he will be able to improve further with continued guidance from Mr. Vincent, and would definitely recommend him as a tutor, especially to children disengaged from the subject.

SCGS P6 to St.Margret S3 Testimonial of Audrey Wong's mother

My daughter Audrey was failing Chinese for many years in Primary school and I was worried for her PSLE exams.  She showed no interest in the subject.  At the beginning of P6, I found Vincent Kok on the internet.  I was intrigued by his teaching methods on trying to engage the students with multimedia.  After 8 months of intensive tuition, my daughter improved from failing the subject to scoring a B for Chinese for PSLE.  I was very happy with her vast improvement.  Today, we are still continuing our tuition with Mr Kok but due to my daughter’s tight school schedule, she has not been diligently attending her tuition lessons, her grades had slipped.  However, during the last few weeks before her final exam for Sec 2, Mr Kok managed to help my daughter to improve her overall grades.  I am confident that my daughter’s grade will continue to improve with Mr Kok’s guidance.  Mr Kok is very encouraging teacher and spares no efforts to try to help his students.  Every student is unique and he tries to find ways to help his students.  I would recommend Mr Kok to anyone who is looking for a dedicated teacher and experienced teacher. Thank you Mr Kok!

SCGS P6 to St.Margret S3 Testimonial of Audrey Wong

Since primary school, I really hated Chinese just because I found it very boring and confusing especially because my school Chinese teachers fail to make the lesson engaging. They would just make us read the textbook multiple times without much explanation. Hence, I did not really pay attention in class and started failing which made me very frustrated with the subject . As I was drawing nearer to my PSLE, my mother started to get worried and found Mr Kok, she was very intrigued by his teaching style which was the use of Multi-media and very rarely would you find teachers with his teaching style, so we decided to give it a shot since my grades could not get any worse. My P6 schedule was very tight and I would have supplementary classes almost everyday and I would come home tired but I would still have Mr Kok's Chinese tuition at night . Even though I am a difficult person to teach and won't cooperate most of the time,Mr Kok is still very patient with me and teachers like that are very hard to come by. With intensive tuition, l managed to score B for my Chinese PSLE which is actually the best l have gotten for Chinese. Now I am sec 2 going to sec3. I may have had a very busy schedule and missed multiple tuitions in sec 2 hence my Chinese grades started slipping again. But with Mr Kok's help, I still manage to improve my Chinese grades in the end of year exams. I am very thankful that my mother found Mr Kok because not only did he help me improve my grades with his engaging lessons, he also made My attitude towards Chinese improve tremendously.

Sandra Chua, P6 (Nan Hua) to Sec 3'15 (CHIJ)

Hello my name is Sandra. I have been taking Mr Kok’s lessons for
almost 3 years and I feel that Mr Kok teaching style is very different from other Chinese teachers. I am sure that most of us tend to hate Chinese a lot as we feel that Chinese is not important and that we should just solely study English. Before I took Mr Kok’s lessons, I honestly really disliked Chinese because I felt that Chinese was really boring but after attending Mr Kok’s lessons, I started to fall in love with Chinese. I used to barely pass my Chinese when I started Secondary 2 but in my EOY exams, I started to improve bit by bit due to Mr Kok’s teachings and I found a huge improvement in my paper 2 which I scored 44/60. Mr Kok’s teaching is really special as he teaches us through media instead of basically books. Many students tend to be very bored or distracted when they learn solely based on books so Mr Kok tend to make the lessons more interesting by adding internet to it. Mr Kok is a really friendly person and he sorts of give off a fatherly image as he is very patient with his students and he always give them a sense of encouragement to make them feel better.

P6 Foundation St. Anthony Dominic Grade 1

We are an English speaking household  (I'm an Australian with only extremely basic Chinese skills) and so we were very concerned when our son was struggling with his Chinese MT classes. It was a real challenge then to support the Mother Tongue learning our son had at school. Dominic's marks were always borderline, and even though we’d tried some group-styled tuition classes,  his results remained low and he was assigned to Foundation in P6. Dominic was not confident in class and was very discouraged about being able to perform well for his exams.  With patience and very thorough revision techniques, Mr Kok helped to rekindle Dominic's interest in Chinese and encouraged our son to feel that he could do well in his exams. Dominic's performance has improved, particularly his reading. And he is actually enjoying it!  With Mr Kok’s consistent guidance and support we believe Dominic will study regular Chinese once he is in Secondary  school. And importantly, now Dominic also believes that this is possible...and this has encouraged us to embrace the Chinese language more as a family.

CHIJ( Toa Payoh) Sec 1 Testimonal of Natalie Goh's Father

I was looking online for an experienced Chinese language tutor for my daughter and we came across Mr Kok. Arrangements were made and lessons started shortly. Mr Kok has the ability to zoom into areas where his students needed the most help with. Lessons were kept lively with active discussions which encourage and promote continuous interest. This is important as success depends on both the tutor and his student. We have great confidence in Mr Kok and would definitely recommend him to any student who needed help with Chinese.

CHIJ( Toa Payoh) Sec 1 Testimonal

My name is Natalie Goh and I am a Secondary One (2015) student at CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh). I have just taken my End Of Year examinations and achieved an A2 grade. I have been taking tuition lessons from Mr Kok for around 5 months now. Mr Kok is a very encouraging and engaging teacher. He makes the effort to bring specifically prepared notes for every lesson to make sure that I can get the lessons I need. He is also very patient and doesn't mind me asking questions many times. Mr Kok also helps me to set reasonable goals for my examinations. He also makes small talk during lessons to lighten the mood and to understand us better. After taking my year-end exams, I am definitely satisfied with my results and I can also say that my Chinese essay writing has vastly improved.

Testimonial from mother of Jon Lon, P5 St.Andrew's Pri to Sec 4 N level St.Andrew's Sec (6 yrs tuition)

I have never encountered a more dedicated tutor like Vincent. Prior to being tutored by Vincent, Jon Lon was struggling with Chinese and was on the verge of giving up on the subject. I am thankful for Vincent's patience in coaching and inspiring my son. Through his perseverance, my son has made made significant progress. Vincent inculcates food moral values and virtues whilst relating his teachings to the Chinese language. He is well versed in MOE's CL2 syllabus. I would strongly recommend Vincent for students who are desperately seeking an excellent tutor.

Bendemeer Secondary 4 Testimonial ( 4 months tuition)

Mr Kok is a patient and competent Chinese tutor, who went the extra mile to help me prepare for my Chinese O levels. I was very weak in Chinese and failing Chinese has been my lifestyle. My school teacher actually asked me to drop Chinese to focus on other subjects. But under Mr Kok's tutelage for 4 months, I was able to pass my GCE O levels Chinese exams conducted in May 2016 and got a C6 which was a miracles for me. Thank you Mr Kok.
