Dear Parent,
You might be feeling the jitters from your child examinations that have recently concluded. You may not just be worried about your child's results but his/her nonchalant attitude towards Chinese. You dread the day your child drops to "B" Syllabus Chinese (standard equivalent to slightly above PSLE Chinese) or even abandons the idea of learning Chinese completely. 5-10 percent of my students fall into that every year. Although English is our indispensable working language, you fear your child will just lose the competitive edge to his/her bilingual counterparts.

But fret not, for I have prepared exam techniques to impart, applicable for:
PSLE, Chinese B, O Level, A Level and IB, especially during the November Holidays

* S3  6 months preparation for 'O' level May paper next year
* P5 11 months preparation for AUG  PSLE paper next year, beginning with Oral

*Oral and Listening Compre exam skills
*Reading and writing skills strengthened such that composition and comprehension segments will secure more marks.
*Specialises in: Nurturing interest, teaching basic exam techniques,
*guiding top school students for their book review tests or book review assignments.
Teaching: P5-6, Chinese B, S1-S4,IB CHINESE, S1-S3 higher chinese ,A Level ,

A) LATEST ORAL EXAM FORMAT
Learning techniques on how to reply questions through video
1) Using Channel 8's new.sg podcast.
*Using video recording to practice Oral*
2) Channel U's "Face Off" like talking point.
3) Develop answering skills, vocabulary and ability to express oneself in speech.
4)Learn from news commentaries to apply to Oral exam.

B)LEARN TEXTBOOK VOCAB FROM  CHINESE SOFTWARE
Through interesting and interactive softwares, students can learn the textbook in a enjoyable manner (students need to bring mobile tablets or laptops). There are even language games for the students to play such that they are able to internalise the words for them to apply.

C)LEARN CHINESE COMPO THRU IPAD

a)Using mobile tablets to type out their essays makes elaborating paragraphs easier.
 Firstly
students nowadays tend to type faster than they write.
Secondly,
they are now able to use more difficult words which they could never do it with pen-and-paper writing as long as they heard it before. This gives them opportunities to experiment out new chinese words they have heard from day to day conversations or the news, increasing their vocabulary in the process.
They are also encouraged to journal down their life experiences like camps, overseas trips, CCAs in a blog format where they are practicing writing with their topics of interest.

b)Surf the net to research on their topics of interest or topics related to their assignments online. This is to allow them to draw references for opinions on the required essay topic.

See you in the November holidays
Yours sincerely,

Vincent Kok

My name is Claire Koh, and I am a Secondary 4 IP student at Methodist Girls' School (Blackmore Drive). I have been taking tuition from Mr Kok since November 2014 in preparation for the Chinese O Levels in 2015. As I am writing this, I have just taken the June written exam.

Mr Kok has been a patient and understanding teacher. He paces himself according to my needs and uses effective methods in achieving the best results, like using online websites to facilitate learning. The study materials that he gives me are concise and to the point, and do not require hardcore memorizing to remember. He gives minimum homework that does not require long hours to complete, and thus does not add unnecessary stress to my school life.

After my exam, I can confidently say that his guidance has made a huge difference to my results. Although I have not gotten back my results, I have found that in both my exam and the mock papers I have taken in school, I am better equipped to answer.

I estimate that I will score at worst a B4 and a best a B3 in my O levels, which is a huge improvement from my results before tutoring, which was usually a C5-C6. When I go to ACS(Independent) for my tertiary education, I plan on continuing my tuition with Mr Kok for the Chinese B subject in IB.

2015 S4 Hai Sing Catholic Bertrard Teo Testimonal

I am a secondary 4 student from Hai Sing catholic school. I have been with Mr Kok since july of last year and have since seen improvements in my grades.
Having recently taken my chinese o-levels, I am confident to say that Mr kok has given me the tools to be able achieve my B3 in this recent exam.

Mr Kok is a friend to all students,  his engaging lessons makes learning chinese a breeze. Such as concise and simple to remember learning materials. He also able to adjust to different students to help better facilitate our learning.

Although this maybe the last year with Mr Kok, I sincerely hope that we will still be friends in the distant future
