Fairfield Methodist Sec 2 & 3 Testimonal

The first day i saw mr kok for the trial lesson i did not have much an impression on him. He seemed nice, friendly and a kind of person whom i could talk to, so when it was time to decide whether i wanted to continue the lessons i just thought why not.  Even though it has only been a few months but i really do feel that i am much more motivated to learn chinese. Mr Kok always gave me an impression that he wanted me to do well and was willing to go the extra mile to help me reach my goals. I am unsure of what other people think of him but the thing that i can be sure of is the genuine care and concern that he always never failed to show me
- Jair's testimony.

I used to dislike Chinese as i never score well in my exams.  I find it hard to communicate and express myself well in Chinese too. However since I started tuition with Mr Kok, I find that my attitude towards the language has  changed. I start to realize that learning Chinese can be fun and it is really useful in real life. Mr Kok's lessons are conducted using games, quizzes, TV programs and newspaper articles, etc. I hope to do even better in this coming year.

Fairfield Methodist Sec 2 & 3 Testimonal of Japheth's & Jair's Mother

If u are looking for a local Chinese tutor who understands the culture and education system of Singapore, you should seriously consider engaging Mr Kok. I came to know of him while browsing through the web. Though Mr Kok has only been teaching my sons for about 4 months, I can see the transformation in their lives. He is genuine, sincere and truly cares for his students. Towards the exam period, he even sacrificed precious family time over the weekends to teach my sons so that they can be more well prepared. He is one of the few teachers (who) is able to impart good values and motivate the students to study hard and be responsible for their own future.

Anglican High Sec 2 Higher Chinese Testimonial

Chua Xue Ya (AHS 2C 2015) Before I started Mr Kok's chinese tuition, I took lessons at a regular tuition centre where they took in more than 10 students at a time. They only focused more on the stronger students and with my horrible chinese, I found it quite hard to catch up. Thus, my chinese grades started to drop and eventually lost my interest towards the subject and even started to hate it. However, when I first started my lessons with Mr Kok, I changed my perspective of chinese and started to take a liking to it. His lessons were more interesting and meaningful as compared to the regular tuition, as he tried to integerate different ways of teaching into the lessons, such as the use of technology and internet, where its easier to type out assignments rather than hand-writing them, and the apps he uses for his lessons provide useful information that is easily accessible. He focuses on trying to improve my weaknesses, like improving my language skills. I find his method of teaching different than other tuition as he is very dedicated to his students and tries his utmost to improve our grades and help us develop a liking to chinese. For example, I used to hate chinese oral but with his method of using recording and watching current-affairs in chinese helped me to develop confidence in speaking. Futhermore, when I have homework or graded assignments that i do not know how to do, he would look at my assignments and correct me and teach me how to apply writing students, as techniques and vocabulary to make it better. For instance, for a holiday assignment that had high weightage on my grades, i had to do a writeup on my trip to china. However, with my limited language skills, i could not write much and had plenty of mistakes in the assignment. However, Mr Kok asked me to do a draft for the assigment and send it via sms to him so that he would help me correct my mistakes and improve on it by adding vocabulary and certain writing techniques. With his help, for that assignment, i managed to get high grades for it and i even learnt new vocabulary phrases and writing techniques that i can apply in my future assignments. I find that he is different from other teachers, and he is passionate in teaching and guiding his he tries to understand his students. He does not teach for the sake of teaching but also reaches out a helping hand as a caring teacher who puts his utmost into teaching. It is no doubt that he has done a fantastic job and i would definitely recommend him to others.
Alyssa Savier (AHS 2C 2015) To fulfill our duties as students, we have to adopt the mindsets to be as versatile as we can. However many have adopted the wrong mindsets to score well using the L1R5 system. To be able to utilize only one's better language is can be very detrimental to one's determination and drive. One would grow complacent and neglect the weaker language. However, after attending Mr Kok's tuition, I have realized that there is so much more to learning Chinese than it is a weaker subject that I can neglect. I have learnt how to truly enjoy studying the Chinese language and to balance out the stark difference in grades between my better language, English, and my once loathed subject, Chinese. His lessons are engaging, thought-provoking and allows us to expand our knowledge besides using the textbook-style teaching method. I highly recommend his tutoring as he managed to revert my dislike for the Chinese subject to one which I truly enjoy and look forward to. As I attend the lessons at a time which I feel rather lethargic and tired, his lesson-plan caters to us in such a way that would be less taxing on our mental capacity, and manages to capture our interests. He integrates technology into our lessons to allow us to improve our understanding on the subject. What differentiates Mr Kok from other teachers, is that he can see the potential in different students and can bring out that potential by changing his teaching style to cater to them. Instead of having only a one-to-one private tuition, we can group along with others in order to allow more interactions within the class for a more interesting engaging experience, as well as to motivate and encourage each other.

Dear Parent,
You might be feeling the jitters from your child examinations that have recently concluded. You may not just be worried about your child's results but his/her nonchalant attitude towards Chinese. You dread the day your child drops to "B" Syllabus Chinese (standard equivalent to slightly above PSLE Chinese) or even abandons the idea of learning Chinese completely. 5-10 percent of my students fall into that every year. Although English is our indispensable working language, you fear your child will just lose the competitive edge to his/her bilingual counterparts.

But fret not, for I have prepared exam techniques to impart, applicable for:
PSLE, Chinese B, O Level, A Level and IB, especially during the November Holidays

* S3  6 months preparation for 'O' level May paper next year
* P5 11 months preparation for AUG  PSLE paper next year, beginning with Oral

*Oral and Listening Compre exam skills
*Reading and writing skills strengthened such that composition and comprehension segments will secure more marks.
*Specialises in: Nurturing interest, teaching basic exam techniques,
*guiding top school students for their book review tests or book review assignments.
Teaching: P5-6, Chinese B, S1-S4,IB CHINESE, S1-S3 higher chinese ,A Level ,

A) LATEST ORAL EXAM FORMAT
Learning techniques on how to reply questions through video
1) Using Channel 8's new.sg podcast.
*Using video recording to practice Oral*
2) Channel U's "Face Off" like talking point.
3) Develop answering skills, vocabulary and ability to express oneself in speech.
4)Learn from news commentaries to apply to Oral exam.

B)LEARN TEXTBOOK VOCAB FROM  CHINESE SOFTWARE
Through interesting and interactive softwares, students can learn the textbook in a enjoyable manner (students need to bring mobile tablets or laptops). There are even language games for the students to play such that they are able to internalise the words for them to apply.

C)LEARN CHINESE COMPO THRU IPAD

a)Using mobile tablets to type out their essays makes elaborating paragraphs easier.
 Firstly
students nowadays tend to type faster than they write.
Secondly,
they are now able to use more difficult words which they could never do it with pen-and-paper writing as long as they heard it before. This gives them opportunities to experiment out new chinese words they have heard from day to day conversations or the news, increasing their vocabulary in the process.
They are also encouraged to journal down their life experiences like camps, overseas trips, CCAs in a blog format where they are practicing writing with their topics of interest.

b)Surf the net to research on their topics of interest or topics related to their assignments online. This is to allow them to draw references for opinions on the required essay topic.

See you in the November holidays
Yours sincerely,

Vincent Kok
